The future of AI in marketing

The Internet of Things (IoT) is quickly changing and revolutionising the world around us and different industries; Gartner has predicted that by 2020 13.5 billion devises will be connected. One industry that is seeing a huge shift is beauty and cosmetics.
The IoT is really changing many people’s beauty regimes and as a self-confessed make-up and beauty addict I love it when new technologies and products come out, so here are my top picks.
The latest tool to be released is L’Oréal’s smart hairbrush that listens to when your hair is breaking! The brush is packed full of sensors, including a microphone, to ‘listen’ to your hair, it even vibrates when it senses you are brushing too hard. You can also see the other data it collects via an app that the brush is connected to.
Variations of this product have been created by several different cosmetic brands. Typically a handheld device is used on the consumer’s skin, the device uses sensors to analyse the skin and suggest treatments for patches, blemishes and even wrinkles. It can also recommend what tone of foundation to use.
Not technically make-up and cosmetics but still a very useful tool. My UV Patch is another L’Oréal product, the patch is placed on your skin while you are outside and measures how much UV exposure you have had, it can also tell you when you are more likely to have the most exposure throughout the day.
Not just the cosmetics and beauty industry is adapting to the Internet of Things, it is slowly becoming the norm for most. If this is where the IoT and cosmetics is in 2017, I can’t wait to see 2020!
