KDR Recruitment office

The environment within an office is very important, it can set the mood and can be the difference between happy, productive employees and those that are not. As Richard Branson once said, “clients don’t come first employees come first, if you take care of your employees they will take care of the clients”

As the recruitment and business support administrator at KDR it’s my job to make sure the office is happy, productive and well organised. Here at KDR we want to make sure we have a positive environment and sometimes it’s the small things that count.

Take a look below for my top tips to making sure you have a happy environment.

Office plants

As I mentioned above it’s sometimes the smaller things that make the biggest difference. At KDR we have always had plants, not only do they add a bit of colour and life to the office but plants have been proven to reduce stress in the office. A study in 2010 found that plants can have the ability to reduce tension by 37% and fatigue by 38%!

Deliver praise and recognition

A little bit of praise can go a long way, and KDR are really good at this (I might be a little biased). They make sure staff are rewarded for putting in their hard work and have done well, I was recently given a bunch of flowers to thank me for staying late and putting in extra hours and this made me feel really appreciated. And on top of that some of the members of team (myself included) are being taken away for a night out for their achievements in Q3.

Meaningful perks

In the age of millennials, the perks and benefits a company offer can sometimes mean more than the salary. Sure, a high paying salary is great but does it make your employees happier? Perks and benefits are one way to do this. Again, this doesn’t have to be something big it can just be a few small ideas to make your staff feel valued and happy. Here at KDR we offer free graze, tea, coffee and subsidised gym memberships.

Team building

Team building can be a great way for people to interact and bond, it can be a great way for bringing those quieter members of the team out of their shell. It can also be a great way to integrate new people into the team. The term “team building” always gets a groan but finding the right activity can really have an impact.

On my very first day at KDR the team went paint balling and quad biking, I was absolutely terrified that the first time I was properly meeting the team I was going to be covered in mud and shooting at them. However, despite those fears I would not change it, it was an amazing way for me to meet everyone and it integrated me into the team quicker than it would in the office!

Trust

Trust goes both ways, and for your employees to feel positive in the work they are doing they have to know they are trusted to do a good job. Employees who want to do their job and be productive want to be given responsibility and accountability for their role. It means less micromanaging but it shows you are confident in your employee’s ability – after all that is why you hired them.

These are just a few ways we make sure the KDR employees are happy and positive and I’m sure there are plenty of different ways too. I know from personal experience a good office environment is important, and it definitely makes me want to come to work.

How do you make sure you employees are happy? Have you worked for a company with unique benefits before? I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas in the comments below.
