Whether you are a recruiter or a candidate, social recruiting will have some impact on you. At KDR we use social recruiting as one of our main tools to attract and find the perfect candidates through LinkedIn searching. 

Using social media in your job search is a must, a recent survey found that 94% of recruiters use social media to network, post jobs and connect with potential job seekers.

As a recruiter I can see the mass of benefits and the effectiveness of recruiting through social media but I want to look at how you, as a candidate, can take advantage of social recruiting tactics.

As a candidate it all comes down to you keeping you profile and activity up-to-date.

Profile

When I’m using LinkedIn to find candidates I use keywords that match the job spec, as well as locations and experience. The user on LinkedIn who matches what I search the most will appear at the top of my search and that’s why it is so important you keep your profile up-to-date and with correct information. 

Make the most of your profile and you’re more likely to appear at the top of the searches. Think of your LinkedIn profile as a CV.

The same rules of keeping everything up-to-date also apply to Twitter and Facebook. While you may not want to use these for job searching purposes it is always a good idea to have your job title and industry on your profile.

Activity

I believe that this is just as important, if not more, than keeping your profile up-to-date. Networking is key to social recruiting. Myself, and other recruiters connect and network with potential job seekers on a daily basis, so it can be easy for us to miss status updates. To keep in the front of a recruiter’s mind, engage on their posts, comment and like and keep the conversation going.

Even if you are not looking at the exact moment a recruiter connects with you it is still a good idea to keep a relationship with them, as you may need them in the future.

It is also a good idea to follow recruiters within your industry as many of us are posting our newest jobs on these sites.

These are just a few tips to take advantage of the tools I use to find the perfect candidate for my roles. Social media can be a great way to find your next job or contract, and at the very least can help you connect and network with the right people for the future.
