Halloween

To celebrate Halloween in the KDR office we asked the team which films really give them the creeps.

Take a look at their number one frightening film:

Mark Dexter chose Dawn of the dead and both Mark D and Chris are fans of its spoof – Shaun of the dead

Dawn of the Dead Shaun of the Dead

"Both feature flesh eating zombies and group of strangers joining up and fighting for survival. In original American dawn of they hold up in a shopping mall and in the English remake, Shaun of, they end up in a pub. Both darkly funny but Shaun of is made as a comedy and well worth a watch!"

Upon asking the team for their top scary films we were shocked to discover that Shaun of the Dead is as close as Chris gets to scary films these days!

Andrew – The Thing

The Thing

"It’s about a shape-shifting alien creature frozen in Antarctica which a group of researchers accidentally uncover. It takes the appearance of the researchers it kills, causing paranoia amongst the group as no one knows who they can trust. I will always remember it because I was still in school and my Dad made me watch it with him – I didn't sleep for 2 nights and it’s safe to say my Mum was not impressed!”

Ben – The Ring

The Ring

“A terrifying film based on a mysterious video tape that once watched, gives the viewer just 7 days to live.. The cursed girl crawling out of the TV was definitely the scariest part!”

Mike - 30 days of night

30 Days of Night

"In the far Northern Hemisphere, the small town of Barrow, Alaska, experiences a solid month of darkness every year. During this time Vampires descend on the town with the ambition to wipe out the remaining survivors. The remaining towns’ people must survive the full month until dawn finally breaks. I like this film as it is based off a graphic novel that sticks very well to the original story making it just as scary as the book.”

Claire – The Blair Witch Project

The Blair Witch Project

“It’s seems less scary now I'm a bit older but the first time I watched this film I was so freaked out.. It was the handheld camera technique and the subsequent suspense it created that got to me!”

Mel and Amy both chose The Shining

The Shining

A violent and psychological horror film – A family spend the winter in an isolated hotel only for things to unravel as the father loses his mind and turns on his family.

Mel – “I found the psychological aspect of the film the most frightening especially the scene where Jacks wife discovers that the manuscript he’s been working on is hundreds of pages typed with the sentence “All work and no play makes  Jack a dull boy” over and over again..”

Amy – “My scariest part was the scene in the maze where the little boy is trying to escape so that his dad doesn't catch him and kill him!”

Mark T – Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus

Perhaps the least scary film of the bunch – Hocus Pocus is a Townsend family favourite for Halloween! A group of witches come back to life and cause havoc in a neighbourhood…

Which scary film will you be sitting down to watch this Halloween? Let us know in the comments below!
