How are the latest trends increasing demand for Data Scientists?
February 9th, 2023
In my 4 months at KDR I’ve had the opportunity to network and immerse myself in Data and Information to learn as much as possible and speak to some of the greatest minds in our industry!
In a sector with so much fluidity and innovation, I’m always learning from the people that I network with and have quickly realised that the arena can change overnight; here are some of the more interesting insights I’ve picked up.
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) has been mentioned a lot lately and comes into act at the end of May 2018. What’s apparent is that enterprises of all sizes need to put Data Security and Regulation at the front of all decisions, with hefty fines involved for those businesses still in breach of strict guidelines when they come into effect. The guidelines that have been released state that any company found in breach of these rules will face a 4% fine on their annual global turnover.
It also seems clear from these events that many people expect to see a rise in compensation claims from data subjects who claim their data rights have been breached. Will this become the new ‘whiplash’ claim?
While at the IP Expo in Manchester a representative at IBM spoke highly of IBM Watson and it’s real life applications; from a supercomputer designed to beat two of the world’s best Jeopardy players in 2011 to being made Open Beta in 2014 alongside the launch of Watson Analytics, IBM promises that their natural language analytics solution will help automate time consuming tasks such as data analysis, predictive analysis and visualisation.
As well as these insights through attending Business Rocks 2016 (#BR2016) in April and frequently attending Manchester based networking via the meetup app, I have been allowed to speak to programmers and developers – the kinds of people that are the lifeblood of our sector of recruitment –this is a great way to learn more about the industry by speaking to those that are hands on and far more technical than myself!
I’m always looking to learn and am truly interested in finding out what the future holds for data and the industry.
If you know of any good events I should attend next month please let me know!
