What’s your unpopular opinion?

Okay, so I’m the first to admit I use my Alexa a lot. I practically use it to run my life – from checking the weather when I get up, turning my lights on and off, timing my cooking, boiling the kettle, ordering take away, the list goes on!
While I do find this pretty useful and I can’t even remember what chaos my life was in before I discovered the Internet of Things, there are quite a few devices out there that may have taken it a bit too far…
SMALT: ‘The world’s first interactive centrepiece.’ Yep, that’s right you can now have an IoT experience while at the dinner table. SMALT uses Bluetooth to play music, set the mood (through coloured lights), and even lets you track your salt intake by connecting to your phone. And it can connect up to your Alexa!
Ever lost your umbrella at a restaurant or in an office? Well this new device, ‘Oombrella’ has a sensor in it so you can track the last known location of the umbrella to your phone – a bit like ‘Find my iPhone’ but for your umbrella! It also claims to be able to warn you before it starts raining.
Through a smartphone app this device allows you to release fragrances through your home while you’re not there. You can even set up a schedule so different smells are released throughout the day at certain times.
If you think you might be eating too fast this device can help you solve that problem. ‘HAPIfork’ is a Bluetooth enabled fork that ‘lights up and vibrates when you are eating too fast’. It also connects up to your smartphone to upload your eating data, so you can track you eating progress.
These are just a few of the more bizarre smart gadgets but there are a lot more on the market! While I do find the Internet of Things and technology has massively benefited my life, I sometimes wonder where will it stop?
Have you become reliant on technology? What are the oddest smart gadgets you have seen?
