Big Day Out at Big Data London
November this year KDR Recruitment had me attend Big Data LDN, it was a great day and an opportunity to network with thought leaders of the analytics industry and develop business relationships with companies pioneering Information Management and showcasing their services.
My day and experience was one that was too good not to share so here is my short diary extract of the day;
8:30am – Arrive at Kensington Olympia, there’s already a buzz outside the event but doors aren’t open. I notice a group of 5 men and women that have the “Big Data” demeanour moving to a coffee shop across the road and decide a cappuccino is a good plan. After exchanging pleasantries they introduce themselves as being from London and Amsterdam, people sure have travelled far to get here!
9:00am – There’s a noticeable queue and people are funnelling into the event, my barcode gets scanned and the attendant provides a shiny lanyard with company and job title that allows entry to the various exhibits and seminars – the program is really well detailed and it’s impressive to see how organised and structured the event is – I grab a seat in the foyer to plan my morning and strike up a conversation with a couple of Business Analysts and Data Scientists!
11:00am – The largest Big Data project in the Universe (ingestion of 1 Terabyte of data per second!) and Self-Service Analytics culture seminars were really insightful – it makes you appreciate how switched on and innovative the doers are in the industry KDR recruits into.
12:30pm – Lunch time, more meetings with KDR contacts (always good to meet people in the flesh after only communicating by phone for so long!) and another opportunity to network with professionals – even had 5 minutes of armistice to sit with another consultant and talk recruitment in analytics.
3pm – Analytical giants have started to garner attention and exhibitions are in full swing! Lots of freebies and technical demos which as a recruiter is a really good way to understand the technologies our candidates use.
5pm – Before closing time there’s an opportunity to have pre-arranged coffee with a couple of Data Scientists before saying farewell to Big Data London 2016 until next year!
Great day out and thoroughly recommended as the go-to event for those interested in analytics and data!
