4 ways for an effective job search

Looking for a new job can be a stressful time, no matter the reason why you are looking. But following a few simple steps can be the difference between a stressful job search or one that is more efficient and focused.

Here at KDR we talk to candidates all day every day, giving plenty of advice and guidance on how best to handle the job searching process. Take a look below for some of our top tips.

Starting

The first thing you should do before you even begin your job search is to work out what you want and where you want to work. It’s best to do your research on the current market to find out what options may be available to you. Start with a checklist of what you want from the job, for example location, salary, seniority and benefits. This will give you a good starting point when you begin searching.

Marketing

To stay ahead of the competition make sure you are marketing yourself properly and that your online presence honestly reflects you and your professional ability. Many companies will now search social media to gain an insight on candidates, the majority will certainly be searching LinkedIn so it is crucial your profile is up to date and matches what you have included on your CV.

Organisation

Like with most things organisation is key to having a successful job search. Keep a note of who you have spoken to and what jobs you have already applied for and which version of your CV and covering letter you have used for each role, this will help you to avoid applying for the same role multiple times. It is also a good idea to organise your time, job searching can be a time consuming task so make sure you set yourself a certain amount of time each day to do this.

Recruitment agencies

When you start your job search you may be determined to do it yourself and want to avoid any representation through recruitment agencies but it is always a good idea to engage with at least one. Recruiters are there to do the job search for you and they can really dedicate their time to finding you the right role. Remember to do your research on the agency beforehand and find one that is specialised to you.

These are just a few steps to making sure your job search is heading in the right direction and here at KDR we are dedicated to helping information management and data professionals find their dream job.
